The effect of meeting opportunities on local urban residents’ prejudice against migrant children in China

This article explores the effect of meeting opportunities between local urban and nonlocal residents on locals’ prejudice against migrant children in China by focusing three contexts: friendships, schools neighbourhoods. China’s hukou policy creates a boundary rural residents, which also takes form locals nonlocals rural-to-urban migration. Urban public with mix students offer chance to observe intergroup relationships as well their parents. Using two waves data from Education Panel Survey (CEPS), this study examines how changes friend groups, schoolmates neighbours affect parents’ prejudice, seen among sample 1630 student-parent pairs. With longitudinal data, mitigates reverse causality contact prejudice. The findings show that parents whose have more friends less under certain conditions.
